Mrs Dickson set aside a more private part of the castle for her own usage. She decorated three rooms and a luxurious bathroom and toilet one and a half floors up.

THE CASTLE´S SECRET ROOM

Her private sitting room has walls decorated with figures from Shakespeare’s ‘A midsummer night’s dream.’ In the middle of the room is a staircase that leads to a medicine room. The little room was not originally planed, it was built in a space that was discovered between the first and second floors – the architect Wahlman added the staircase afterwards.

A FOUR-POSTER BED FROM LIBERTYS

Mrs Dickson’s bedroom is somewhat dark, and decorated from the exclusive Libertys of London – which is still in business today. The grand four-poster bed with red velvet curtains was bought there.

FOR UTILITY AND PLEASURE

Mrs Dickson’s private bathroom is decorated with beautiful marble mosaics and has a large submerged bathtub and an impressive shower. The bathrooms at Tjolöholm have been objects of admiration for over a hundred years. The castle was originally equipped with three bathrooms and six flushing toilets. All the showers were bought in England. They were cylindrical – the water came from above, but also from the sides and up from the floor.
